Terms of service
Last updated 16 September 2026
You keep every right to what you write. We only hold it, show it back to you, and do what you ask with it. You can leave whenever you like and take it with you.
What this is
Yarnfold is software for preparing, running and remembering a tabletop campaign. Using it means agreeing to what is on this page. If you do not agree with it, do not use it — and if something here is the reason, we would genuinely like to know.
You need to be at least 16 to have an account.
Your account
One person, one account. Keep your password to yourself — anything done from your account is treated as done by you. Tell us if you think somebody else has got into it.
The email address on the account has to be one you can actually receive mail at, because it is how you get back in if you forget your password.
What you write stays yours
Your campaigns, characters, worlds, notes and recordings are your work and remain your property. Nothing you write becomes ours by being typed into our software.
You give us only the permission needed to run the service: to store your content, show it back to you, and pass the relevant part of it to a model provider when you ask the assistant for something. That permission ends when you delete the content or close your account.
What the assistant writes. Anything it drafts for you is yours to use however you like, including commercially. We claim nothing in it. Be aware that the same is true for everyone, so a model may produce something similar for someone else, and that machine-generated text may not be copyrightable in your country.
Paying
Plans are monthly and renew automatically until you cancel. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax you may owe locally.
The trial is thirty days with no card. When it ends you keep everything you made and can still read it — you simply cannot write or use the assistant until you take a plan.
Moving up takes effect immediately and is charged pro rata. Moving down takes effect when the period you have paid for ends — you keep what you paid for until then. Either way nothing you have made is deleted; campaigns beyond what a plan covers become read-only and come back if you move up again.
Cancelling stops the next payment and takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for. We do not refund part-months as a matter of course, but if something went wrong, ask — we would rather sort it out than argue about it.
If a payment fails we will pause editing rather than delete anything, and tell you why.
What you may not do
A short list, and none of it will surprise you:
- Break into other people’s accounts or campaigns.
- Resell access, or share one account across a group to avoid paying for it.
- Use it to produce material that is illegal where you are.
- Hammer the assistant automatically. It is there for running your game, not for generating text at volume.
If any of that happens we will contact you first and suspend the account only if it continues — unless it is serious enough that waiting would be worse.
The assistant is not a person
It will get things wrong. It proposes and you approve, every suggestion shows you where it came from, and nothing enters your campaign that you have not read. That design is deliberate and it is also the extent of what we can promise: the output is a draft, not an authority, and checking it is your job.
It is also not a rules authority. Its answers about any game system are best efforts, not rulings, and the person at the table who decides is you.
Leaving
You can close your account from your account page at any time. Everything is erased thirty days later, and signing in during that window cancels it.
Ask before you go and we will get you a copy of your campaigns in a format you can read elsewhere. We would rather you left with your work than without it.
Interruptions, and what we are liable for
We will keep this running as well as we can, but we do not promise it will never be down, never lose anything, or always be available. Keep your own copy of anything you could not bear to lose — that is true of any software and it is true of this.
To the extent the law allows, our liability to you is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before whatever went wrong. We are not liable for lost profits, lost campaigns or anything indirect.
Nothing here limits anything that cannot legally be limited, including liability for death, personal injury or fraud.
Changes
If these terms change materially we will email you at least thirty days before it takes effect. Carrying on using Yarnfold after that means accepting the change; if you would rather not, cancel and we will refund the unused part of the month.
Getting in touch
Write to us with anything. A real person reads it.
